The oldest said goodbye to summer this year with a twist… literally.

She had painted this sunny/cloudy day painting and I uploaded it to the computer and pulled it up in photo editing.

I left the room for a minute and when I came back, it looked like this…

She won’t tell me what she did, but she says it’s a “goodbye to summer” painting “showing summer swirling down the drain”.

So apparently my posts suffered some major glitches while we were on vacation for the past two weeks. Not a single thing posted and I have no idea why – sorry everyone!

Anyway, this was supposed to post last week. Here’s what the oldest has been up to:

She decided she wanted to start keeping a nature journal and so she put together a notebook and designed a cover for it.

Toss together a few photo copied pages of a blank paper person template, a box of crayons, a pair of safety scissor and a self-proclaimed bored 7-year-old and what do you get?

A paper village!

(And if you’re lucky, a paper village puppet show…)

The 7-year-old says it’s a “Time Travel Tube”.

He designed it and assembled it himself. So far he hasn’t time-traveled anyone anywhere, but the light on top actually lights up.

The small button on the left is supposed to take you back in time, and the larger button on the right is supposed to take you forward in time.

I am told by the resident 7-year-old, that this is “Robot Boy” – a boy with super hero robot powers.

Unfortunately, Robot Boy doesn’t use his super powers for cleaning up 7-year-old boys’ messy bedrooms.

Or so I am told.

“I think maybe I got malaria from camp.
