A One Pound Miracle from God

I would like to introduce to you, Kayleigh Anne Freeman (A One Pound Blessing from God)

Death or Life.  Which would you choose when several doctors tell you there’s nothing you can do to save your unborn child’s life?  Have you ever held a 13 ounce baby in the palm of your hands before?  We chose life!

There are almost 500,000 premature births each year.  Only 6% of those premature births are less than 28 weeks of gestation.  Most of the 6% born prematurely at that age, don’t survive.

Along this rollercoaster of a pregnancy, our little creation encountered many gut wrenching roadblocks, mainly severe growth restriction, no amniotic fluid and a heart defect that was shunting blood to the wrong side of her heart.

Aimee was stricken with severe preeclampsia, enormous cysts the size of tennis balls on her uterus, and a liver function that was three times the normal limit. My fear was losing both my wife and my child.

Our faith was tested as our little girl fought to stay alive day after day in the broken womb for ten weeks as we anticipated to hear a heart beat every night before bed. She had to reach a viable weight to enable the doctors to use breathing tubes small enough to allow her lungs to work in our world.

At 28 weeks gestation, Kayleigh was born via emergency c-section due to preeclampsia and severe IUGR (Internal Uterine Growth Restriction) on June 23rd, 2008, weighing a delicate 470 grams (1 lb – 1 oz).

She was already fearfully growing 6 weeks behind schedule, measuring 22 weeks in size. Soon after her birth, she rapidly dropped to an unbelievable 13 ounces. Kayleigh was smaller and lighter than a plastic coke bottle out of a vending machine. It was a breath taking sight to see. Kayleigh was the smallest baby delivered in that hospital by our “Angel” doctor.  As you can see above, my small wedding band fit around her wrist.

After 9 months, Kayleigh is still fighting for her life and could possibly make it home in the near future. She has fought through many battles in her short time here on earth. She has undergone numerous surgeries, which include ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity), VSD Repair – Open Heart Surgery (One of the smallest babies to ever undergo the procedure), Gastrointestinal Exploratory Surgery, Tracheotomy Placement, Heart Catherization, future – PEG Placement, Bilateral Hernia Repair.

From the first post Aimee made on BabyCenter.com to scream out for prayers as our baby was dying, to this day where Kayleigh’s Story/Blog has attracted close to 50,000 unique visitors a month. Follow her story here: www.KayleighAnneFreeman.blogspot.com

My name is Adam Freeman.  Aimee, my wife and I are proud parents who only wanted to capture the special moments of our daughter before finding out there was something bigger that God wanted us to do with her story.

Since making the decision to create a blog of her journey, she has captured thousands of hearts, mended relationships, uplifted religious walks, educated fellow parents, proved the power of prayer, softened abusive parent’s mouths, saved unborn children’s lives and gave hope to everyone that anything is possible through God.

Aimee and I are two loving people who only want to do God’s will. We are reaching out to as many people as possible to give hope and help in anyway, shape or form. We have shared our story on NBC, MSNBC, Light 102.9, The Children’s Miracle Network, March of Dimes, RE/MAX, future television productions are in the works, a book we plan to publish once Kayleigh comes home and thousands of blogs across the world.

We are trying to reach many people and share faith, hope and love.

If there is anything we can do to help you through your journey, please let us know.

God Bless,

The Freemans
