small steps to maturity

As a parent of a developmentally delayed child, I revel at every sign of maturation. A recent one occurred at our county fair. We were watching the 4h Horse competitions when we heard an announcement for a stick pony activity. And it was free. She sat in he stroller and chose the parts for her horsey.

The excitement for me came after the lovely 4H volunteers finished stapling and gluing the pony parts on the wooden head. I passed it to her and the first thing she did was kiss it!

On our way to the van, she rode it. It was so stinkin’ cute. She loves that pony. It make me so happy to see her developing pretend play skills. They have come almost 3 years after a typical child, but I’m used to that now.
