I Heart Handipoints

Like most parents, I sometimes struggle to get my kids to keep their rooms clean and help around the house. Zoe also went through a period where she was stimming without using her therapeutic fidget toy, which is damaging to her hands. I looked for a system to get the kids to do their chores—and to encourage good and safe behaviors; I was referred to Handipoints chore charts, and we’ve had great success with it.

Handipoints is a website where parents can set up customizable chore charts and behavior charts that work on a point system. The charts can be printed and posted in a place where the kids can see it (which will serve as a helpful reminder), or it can be used strictly online. Here are just a few examples of things we’ve placed on Zoe’s chart:

–put your toys away
–stim using fidget toy
–say please and thank you
–put your dirty clothes in the hamper

In addition to setting up these charts, kids and parents can set up rewards that the kids can request after earning enough points. Now that my kids are earning an allowance and learning about saving money, this serves as a great incentive; they establish a goal, and have progress charts that see how they are working towards that goal.

I really like the fact that the charts can be customized to suit my family’s needs. My kids love it because the website also has kid-friendly videos and activities. For more information, visit their website, www.handipoints.com.
