Against Medical Advice: Book Review and Giveaway

Our book reviews and giveaways are usually the Jennifer’s domain. You know, being a published author and all. (BTW, have you read Roadmap to Holland?) But when this opportunity was offered, I accepted in a flash. I just knew I needed to read this book. Against Medical Advice by James Patterson and James Friedman tells…

Would you save a life if you could?

When Peyton was diagnosed with Leukemia, one question that we were asked repeatedly was, “She needs a bone marrow transplant, right?” I would have to explain that bone marrow transplant is a last ditch effort, that you don’t do it unless nothing else works, you don’t WANT to do bone marrow transplant. There’s nothing easy,…

What Do You See?

WHAT DO YOU SEE… Written by Teresa from Samuel’s Miracle *when a tiny baby sucks its bottle and swallows? I see something my son may never be able to do. *when you take your child’s temperature? I see 97.6 because my son’s brain no longer understands that it’s a degree colder than it should be….

Special Needs Ministry (A Resource Post)

I know that I have spent the last two weeks on the topic of special needs ministry. As much as I enjoyed sharing my personal story, however, I thought it might be helpful to offer a list of resources for those of you who may be interested in pursuing this idea at your own place…

Am I Selfish?

Again, in celebration of the 2008 National Adoption Awareness Month, the following is an article I wrote for Richmond Magazine. It published in November 2007, and was one of several stories celebrating adoption. Someone asked me the other day if I thought it was selfish to adopt children with special needs as a single parent….
