My dream…

I have this dream for all of us, I dream that one day we all can walk in to “Our Toy Store” and find our kids playing in the aisles. That there are toys available to try and see if they’d work for our children. Where we’re not ordering from catalogs at home, but instead we’re pulling out samples off the shelf and play with them to make sure our child can actually play with this item. Not just spending crazy amounts of money for something that we thought might work, but now that we have it and see how it works…it doesn’t work for our child.

It’s not just this time of year…I start in about May looking for that special birthday gift and since I’m looking maybe plan ahead for Christmas. That’s sort of where I begin to dig myself that hole. I’ve found the best time to go to our local big chain toy store is during the day, while the other kids are at school. Then I don’t get SO depressed watching the kids playing in the aisles…or that bike they’re going to get. Just friendly reminders, I so don’t try to focus on what my son’s not able to do, but instead of what he is able to do. The toy store doesn’t bring out the best in me 🙂  I search and I search, I stress myself out, I complain about the guessing games I read the catalog’s or website’s information that’s offered, I try to figure out exactly “what is adapted” or “how is it adapted?” and is it going to work for my son??? Chances are not high that he’d be able work it. So then my son becomes the best dressed 6 year old, as for once that’s easiest to buy, or he’ll again get a stack of books to add to what could be known as the local library…or another rendition of  “Row, Row, Row your boat” we have many different people singing the same songs, because that’s what he likes is music.

So while I stress out every year over finding his birthday present Santa finding the perfect gift, the reality of it all is, he just loves to be cuddled and sung to. And who is going to argue about cuddling and singing to his big blue eyes? One year I found this mp3 player…it came preprogramed with 10 songs. I listened to those songs so many times…then finally figured out how to add some songs…this was the best gift I’ve ever found for him. What was the best gift you’ve found so far?it runs on 4 double A batteries that last forever 🙂
