So here we are on the brink of a new begining. It’s the First of the New Year…it’s a time of reflections of the past and we think about the future. Some may make goals of changes of what could be their firsts for the future. I’d like to reflect a little on the “Firsts” that we experience…
I’ll just go back to the first pregnancy test taken. That 5 minute test that could be a new beginning. The first time you visit the doctor. The first time you receive your estimated due date. The first Ultrasound. The first photographs of your unborn child. The first time you hear your baby’s heart. The first time you realize you’d do anything for this baby and you haven’t met them yet. The first breath you take after giving birth to this beautiful being. Love at first sight. The first look at your child. The first time you find out there is an issue to deal with…the unknown. The first time you hold your beautiful child. The first breath off the ventilator. The first bottle/feeding. The first time they mention the word “home” to you and your family. The first Picture. The first car ride. The first little outfit. The first bath. The first clothing change. The first outing. The first midnight feeding that actually happens at 2:oo in the morning. The first week of not sleeping at home. The first month. The first pack of many diapers to come. The first formula change (that will be followed by others). The first trip to the doctor’s (that the appointment was made for you while you were in NICU & you don’t know who this doctor even is yet) The first Thanksgiving/first holiday. The first formula that allowed us to sleep through the night (finally~happy birthday to me!) The first Christmas and New Years….
There are many firsts that we get to experience and appreciate so much more than the average bear. So while counting our first, remember where it started from and count all your blessings. Not all are good, but the good surely outway the negative. Remember the First is a new beginning take a moment to renew and refresh your appreciation of the small things that have gotten you to where you are today. and if something goes badly…remember you have an oppourtunity to start over every moment of the day. Don’t dwell on the bad but remember what it took to get where you are right at this moment and focus on how you can use the “bad” to move forward.
To new beginnings…to new experiences…to new faces…to knew friendships…to new outlooks.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy New year!
